Fabric Care Tips for Block Printing Dresses

Block printing is the oldest art in India. This method uses a carved wooden block which are dipped in colorful dyes and stamped on the fabric manually. No other techniques can beat the immense beauty of hand block printing fabrics.

Following are the fabric care tips including techniques related to washing, drying ironing and storage, which will help us to spin out life of hand block print fabrics:

1.      Separate hand wash with cold water

The natural process of block fabrics makes them bleed colors of various dyes used. So, if we want to exempt from overlapping of colors, we should wash every garment separately with hands without use of machine.

Cold water must be used to wash our fabrics because hot water can fade and shrink our beautiful hand block print dresses.

2.      Prefer shelter to dry hand block print fabrics

No matter we are in hurry or not, hand block fabrics should be kept away from high-heat drying methods. If we wish to increase life of our favorite hand prints dresses, they should be dried turning inside out in shade. Exposing garments to direct sunlight can cause issues of fading bright colors and contraction.

3.      Keep hand block dresses away from soaking

Block printings are made on fabrics with human hands. Several process and dyes are used to give our dresses pleasing and accurate finishing. Hence, they should be kept away from soaking. Waterlogged increases chances of extra bleeding of colors.

If there is stain on any part of dress, a mild detergent can be used targeting spot area only.

4.      Never apply brush

After adding soap, applications of washing paddle or brush to clear dirt and stains of clothes. It is not recommended to use such techniques on block printing fabrics as they are delicate and can actually minimizes life of hand block clothing.

5.      Pay attention while ironing

With high temperature our block prints can dwindle fast. But ironing is essential to maintain crease of clothes. Best solution to iron hand prints fabrics is to turn them inside out and iron with mild temperature lightly.

6.      Store separately if possible

You can say warmth as an enemy to hand block prints. At the time of washing, drying and ironing and storage too, we have to prevent our clothes from heat.

It is propounding to store garments in cool and dry place and if possible, keep light colored garments away from dark colored.
